Animal control, maintenance and fire chiefs report increased activity; city readies summer events

At the May 14 meeting Castle Dale's animal-control officer, maintenance supervisor and fire chief reported recent public-safety and facilities activity.
Code enforcement/animal control officer Dustin Carter said his office received 36 calls for service between April 10 and May 14. He reported trapping four feral cats that were taken to Emery Animal Health, impounding five dogs (with four citations issued), and issuing seven warnings for animals-at-large. Carter also reported responding to an emu at large and placing notices about ordinance compliance; he said the Department of Natural Resources handled a separate bear capture.
Maintenance Supervisor and Fire Chief Ignacio Arrien reported completion of sidewalk inspections and that event rentals of the pavilion and arena are strong for the summer season. He said Memorial Day preparations were underway and cautioned that water shortages have limited flower watering. Arrien also said half of the fire crew attended engine training in Price and recounted recent incidents: two gas leaks and a camp trailer fire in town.
