Lower Alsace supervisors authorize up to $25,000 for Carsonia Avenue engineering work

The Lower Alsace Township Board of Supervisors voted on Sept. 12 to authorize engineering work for the Carsonia Avenue sidewalk, storm sewer and streetscape project not to exceed $25,000.
Township Engineer Joe Rogosky outlined the first steps of the project and estimated the preliminary engineering costs at about $25,000. After discussion, Supervisor John Theodossiou moved to authorize the work, Supervisor Todd Weikel seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
Rogosky also provided updates on related infrastructure work: the 2024 road paving project is scheduled to begin soon, and a stone wall on Lewis Road has crumbled in places, creating a sharp edge that could pose a hazard to motorists; he said he will meet with the property owner to identify repair options. The engineer said repair work scheduled at the township fire station should have a status update at the October meeting.
Road Foreman Carl Weikel told the board that leaf collection will start at the end of the month and that he will coordinate with the paving contractor during construction.
The board did not set a final project timeline or funding source beyond the authorized engineering expenditure; further budget and project decisions will come in later meetings.
