Union City Council approves $400,000 bridge grant application, paving disbursements and multiple finance measures

Union City Borough Council at its June 25 meeting approved a slate of routine motions and a major grant application to support local infrastructure work.
The council unanimously passed a resolution to apply for $400,000 from the Multimodal Transportation Fund for replacement of the Willow Street bridge. Councilor Osborn moved the resolution and Councilor Kerns seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
Council also approved financing and disbursement motions tied to the borough’s 2024 paving program. An invoice from Cross Paving for $104,740.81 will be paid with $92,130.00 from Liquid Fuels and $12,610.81 from the General Fund, following a unanimous motion. The council approved applying $15,625 in County Aid funds toward the Suit-Kote seal-coat payment.
On reuse of paving millings, Union Township agreed to grind millings and track usage; council approved providing 2–3 loads to the American Legion ballfield to help repair a driveway. The council also authorized posting removed playground equipment on Municibid for sale.
Financially, councilors voted to open a PLGIT Checking & Prime account and transfer approximately $140,000 in Capital Equipment funds to earn higher interest. Borough Manager Cindy Wells reported the Union City Volunteer Fire Department repaid its ambulance loan in full ($59,250) and that the borough received a $100,000 award from the ECGRA Renaissance Grant program.
Council approved two tax-exoneration resolutions for properties purchased by the Erie County Land Bank (11 Maple Street and 48 Atlantic Street) and approved Renaissance grant awards: four applications totaling $17,675 for 2023/2024 and carryover of two applications totaling $9,452.65 to the 2024/2025 grant period.
All listed motions were recorded as carrying unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 7:21 p.m.; an executive session to discuss personnel and contracts followed with no action taken.
