Staff told the Architecture Review Board that City Council recently updated Chapter 159, the boards and commissions rules and procedures section. The change adds grounds for forfeiture of membership for recurring absences: three consecutive absences or four absences within any 12-month period may be considered forfeiture unless the absence is excused by council for illness, injury or another emergency circumstance.
Staff said the amendment gives council more discretion and clarity to address recurring absences and that commissions should not expect a broad discretionary tolerance for travel or vacation-related absences in the future. A board member said the intent appeared to shift toward more consistent enforcement. The item was provided as informational (FYI) and no board action was required at the meeting.
