Architecture board approves Lido signs for 29 South High Street

The New Albany Architecture Review Board on Nov. 13 unanimously approved a certificate of appropriateness for three signs for Lido at 29 South High Street.

Staff presented the proposal for Prosign Studio, the applicant representative, describing three signs: a south-elevation wall sign of about 7.25 square feet and 2 inches thick; a west-elevation wall sign of about 10.84 square feet and 2 inches thick; and a small east-elevation plaque of roughly 2.25 square feet and 0.75 inches thick. Staff said existing downlights on the building would illuminate the wall signs and that the proposed design complements the village center.

The board asked whether the landlord had approved the signage; Sean Ali of Prosign Studio said the landlord had approved the submission before the permit application. Board members also discussed consistency with adjacent tenant signs and whether the new signs would compete visually with existing signage. One committee member said the proposed signs were not objectionable but raised consistency concerns with other plaque-style signs on the building.

Committee members then moved and seconded approval of ARB-77-2024. The board voted in favor with four votes to approve the application as presented.

The applicant was advised to proceed with the building permit process and to follow any standard permitting steps required by staff.
