District reviews alternative education providers as Nitney and River Rock report outcomes

At the June 11 work session Keystone Central board members heard outcome reports from two alternative placement providers and discussed related memoranda of understanding.
Nitney Learning Services: Nitney representatives John Paul Petrini and Joel Brinker reported that 14 Central Mountain students were referred to their Pleasant Gap program during the school year; nine met program goals and returned to Central Mountain after 45 days, two served 90‑day expulsions and returned after that period, and one student spent about 115 days in placement. The presenters said data and end‑of‑year statistics would be emailed and posted to board documents for review.
River Rock Academy: River Rock regional operations director John EP and campus director Ken Tone reported seven student referrals this year; six returned within the first 45 days and one remains placed for the coming school year. River Rock noted it also provides AEDY/ADY services and is planning an elementary program (K–6) that could be located closer to the district to reduce transportation costs.
CTC and out‑of‑district MOUs: Separately, the district reviewed a MOU allowing two Jersey Shore students to attend Keystone Central CTC programs; the CTC manager Kurt said the center has been attracting out‑of‑district students and reported about $30,000 in grant activity this year. Board members asked for contract cost comparisons, slot pricing and a July work session item to explore whether to increase purchased seats.
What’s next: Providers will supply final statistics and contracts; the board asked administration to place River Rock and alternative placement contract details on a July work session agenda and to circulate comparative cost spreadsheets as requested.
