Tour to Tonka to pass through Mound on Aug. 1; volunteers and rest-stop partners sought

Organizers of Tour to Tonka told the Mound City Council on June 9 that the annual community bike event will take place Saturday, Aug. 1, with multiple route options and rest stops that will use Mound facilities.
Jenny Vaderka of Minnetonka Community Education described four routes (16, 24, 40 and 58 miles) and said the 40- and 58-mile routes will pass through Mound, where Bethl United Methodist Church will serve as a rest stop with volunteers, music and water. Vaderka said the event aims to remain affordable for families, relies on roughly 400 volunteers for staffing and directs a portion of registration fees to the local ICA food shelf (she said Tour to Tonka has donated more than $105,000 to date).
Vaderka outlined safety partnerships with local police and fire agencies, an online volunteer sign-up option via the event website and on-the-ground logistics including bike mechanics and rest-stop services. Council members thanked organizers and encouraged outreach to local volunteers and businesses.
