Señor Quiñones testifies in Reading zoning hearing on proposed barber shop at 1000 North 12th Street

The Reading Zoning Hearing Board heard testimony from applicant Señor Quiñones on an appeal for 1000 North 12th Street, where he seeks approval to operate a barber shop on the building’s first floor.

Señor Quiñones, sworn on the record, said he has previously worked in barber shops and that this would be the first barber shop he owns. He told the board the proposed shop would have five chairs and operate roughly from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays; he said appointments and walk-ins would both be accommodated. He also said the building owner, Guzmán, had given approval for the applicant to pursue the zoning relief.

Board members and staff put exhibits into the record (notice; proofs of posting and publication; the application and attachments; and the City of Reading zoning ordinance, as amended). Staff confirmed the property had been posted and that two parking spaces associated with the prior pet-store use would be available for the business. The board cautioned that the applicant must obtain any required water or sewer permits, must comply with sign rules, and that vending or merchandise outside the property is not permitted without appropriate approvals.

No members of the public appeared to give testimony for or against the proposal. The chair closed the evidentiary portion of the hearing and said the board would deliberate and prepare a written decision to be mailed to the parties on July 8.

What’s next: The board will issue a written decision and mail it to the parties on or about July 8; if the request is approved, the applicant must still obtain any necessary municipal permits and comply with conditions in the board’s written decision.
