Environmental Commission honors beekeeper Kathy Uma with Good Neighbor Award

The Twinsburg Environmental Commission presented its 2026 Good Neighbor Award on June 9 to local beekeeper Kathy Uma for community education and outreach.
Jonah Pette, representing the Environmental Commission, said the nomination highlighted Uma's work teaching about bees at Arbor Day and Earth Day events and at county and state gatherings. He praised her passion and the way she has engaged neighbors and students in the city's environmental programming.
Accepting the award, Kathy Uma described recent beekeeping activity and neighbor outreach: "I have collected seven swarms in the past three weeks. I have given four of them away and two of them have gone to somebody in Twinsburg who is also a beekeeper." She noted she has encouraged more residents to keep bees and to learn about their role in the local ecosystem.
The award was presented by the Environmental Commission and recognized at the council meeting; council members and the mayor offered congratulations and took photos following the presentation.
