Superintendent Jill Burns, who led the evening's district report, congratulated the board on a successful search and thanked student representatives who participated in candidate interviews. "It was a very extensive search and a lot of important time spent," Burns said, adding that students Elliot and Micaiah served on the interview team.
Burns also summarized recognitions granted to three district schools by Washington State for growth in particular student groups. She said Sunrise Elementary received recognition for growth among low‑income students from the 2023–24 to 2024–25 school years; Westwood and Thunder Mountain also received state recognitions in categories the superintendent described to the board.
The superintendent highlighted new student-centered practices, including senior exit interviews and an Agriventure field trip for fourth- and fifth-graders. Burns said the exit interviews ask students to name who they are, what they want to become and the next step toward that goal, and described the conversations as "humbling and celebratory." She also pointed the public to the high school website for senior-related information.
The board concluded the update by thanking the district staff and the Uniontown Schools Foundation for recent support events and fundraising activities.
What's next: The superintendent's remarks were informational. The board's formal business later in the meeting included votes on several resolutions, a construction contract, policy updates and the naming of a new elementary school.
