The Blue Springs R-IV Board of Education adopted its preliminary FY27 budget and approved a related budget amendment and fund transfer at its June board meeting, voting unanimously on a consolidated motion.
Mr. Samson presented three items the board had discussed at a recent retreat and work session: adoption of the preliminary budget (a statutory annual requirement), budget amendment 261 to tidy routine items, and a transfer of funds from the operating fund to the capital fund to address capital needs without a direct capital levy. After brief remarks the board moved to a single vote.
Mr. Herrell moved to approve all three items; Miss Swank seconded. President Swanson called for those in favor to raise a hand; the motion carried 7-0.
Board members noted that the items were discussed earlier in the work session and that the consolidated vote followed that review. The board did not specify a dollar amount for the transfer or the amendment during public discussion; those figures were presented in the work session materials referenced at the meeting.
Next steps: by adopting the preliminary budget the district satisfies the statutory requirement ahead of the formal budget cycle; staff indicated the items will be implemented as outlined in the work-session packet and any required public notices will follow statutory timelines.
