Chickasaw County Board of Health authorizes grant paperwork, 28E agreement and restricted donation account

The Chickasaw County Board of Health on May 8 authorized the public-health director to sign paperwork for a concluded Emergency Response Grant amendment, approved a county-to-county 28E agreement for a small cancer-prevention grant, and requested creation of a restricted donation account for future projects.

The board voted unanimously among present members to allow Lisa Welter, Chickasaw County Public Health Agency administrator, to sign Amendment 5 to the Emergency Response Grant so staff can recoup unspent funds and redistribute them to other grants. "This grant has ended and we are recouping unspent funds to distribute to other grants," Welter told the board.

The board also approved a 28E agreement with Marion County to participate in the Healthy Iowans–Combat Cancer grant. The agreement covers Chickasaw and Howard counties and carries $2,421.19 for the period March 20, 2026, through October 30, 2026. The motion to authorize the director to sign the 28E carried with Joan Knoll and Jeremy McGrath joining Chair Toni Friedrich in the affirmative; two members were absent.

Separately, the agency reported receipt of a monetary donation and the board voted to request that county supervisors direct the auditor to set up a restricted donations account to be used for special projects at the discretion of the public-health director. The board approved the request by motion; Welter said the account would allow use of donated funds for items beyond the department’s general budget.

Votes and motions recorded at the meeting appear in the board minutes. The board scheduled its next meeting for June 12, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.
