Quarterly licensing update: two prosecutions, DBS checks and resource pressures discussed

The committee discussed resource pressure from increased driver and vehicle applications; officers said they are streamlining processes with online booking for knowledge, English and safeguarding checks and by moving forms online to free officer time.
A Sergeant asked whether paragraph 4.2 (license premises enforcement) could include cases that are being progressed so members are aware; the licensing team leader said the service works closely with the police licensing officer, has run operations in Southgate Street and would consider how to improve reporting about ongoing enforcement where appropriate.
On background checks the licensing team leader said new driver applicants undergo enhanced DBS checks and the service runs six‑monthly checks on existing licences; where new information appears officers follow up with drivers and bring matters to the licensing subcommittee if needed.
