Sagamore bridge permitting, bidding and reconstruction timeline updated; Bourne maintenance caused recent traffic backups

Mark Ells said he had just come from a bridge coalition meeting and provided an update on the Sagamore and Bourne bridges.
"The Sagamore bridge project is active. They are permitting. They're going out to bid this summer. Uh they expect to to to start a year or so after that. Um so by 2028 they'll be well into reconstruction of the Sagamore bridge," Ells said, adding that the Sagamore is roughly 91 years old and nearing the end of its useful life.
Ells said the Bourne bridge recently underwent about 16 days of maintenance that caused traffic backups. He described the coalition's presentation on funding prospects as "very aggressive" and "very positive" and said he will continue to share updates from the coalition as more information becomes available.
The town manager said funding is in prospect for these projects and that he will include additional details in future communications to the public.
