Town Manager Brent Cornelison provided several updates at the May 11 meeting. He reported that purchaser Dillon Neaves received a survey for the town's former water-plant property showing 1.3 acres, while Neaves needs 1.5 acres for his project. The board discussed the possibility of including the nearby basketball court in the land transaction on terms that would preserve future public use; members indicated they would be willing to pursue further research and negotiation.
Engineer Greg Kershaw of Ardurra Group Inc. (formerly W.K. Dickson) attended and told the board a $5,000,000 grant is available that could be used for a new terminal and a generator at the Elkin Airport. According to the meeting record, the grant would require no local match and there would be no application cost.
Cornelison also announced an employee picnic for Friday, May 15, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. under the Farmers Market Shelter, with staff and invited guests welcome to attend.
