Town reports MassDEP guidance on alternative septic systems for nitrogen reduction

Mark Ells said the town has received information from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection describing innovative alternative septic systems that MassDEP has approved for nitrogen reduction in Massachusetts.
"I've been receiving an increasing number of inquiries regarding the use of innovative alternative septic systems from residents, and therefore I'm sharing information that we've recently received from MassDEP," Ells said, adding that the guidance lists technologies approved by DEP for nitrogen reduction.
Ells told residents the MassDEP materials and a link are available through the town's website and noted that DEP provides contact options, including email, for technical questions. He encouraged residents who are considering such technologies to review the list and contact MassDEP for specifics about approvals and applicability.
