Musco proposes LED lighting upgrade for Robertson High stadium, touts 10-year warranty and remote controls

Tanner Dauch, a lighting consultant for Musco Sports Lighting, told the board that Musco would reuse Robertson High School’s existing conduit and poles and install a factory pre-aimed LED system designed to reduce on-field glare and maintenance costs.

"We’re the nation’s leader in sports lighting," Dauch said. He described a design that moves most maintenance to driver boxes roughly 10 feet up the pole, reduces weight at the top of poles and comes with a 10-year parts-and-labor warranty. Dauch said the system includes remote monitoring and scheduling that would notify district staff if a fixture fails, and dimming and color-show features for community events.

Musco estimated roughly $35,000 in energy-cost savings over the 10-year warranty period; Dauch said the company could share the formula behind that estimate. He also said the company was aiming to have materials arrived by late July and to target an August 14 installation window, subject to coordination with the district and the district’s electrical contractor.

Board members asked whether existing poles are reusable and about payment timing; one board member asked whether payment would be completed by July. Staff said they would confirm pole compatibility with district electricians and follow up on payment timing. The board also discussed scheduling a special meeting to allow additional public input on both the field-conversion and lighting proposals.

The lighting presentation did not result in an immediate board vote; staff said they would return with any required procurement language and compatibility confirmations.
