Board allows outside utility to serve single Greendale parcel after septic denial

Tom Hammerstrom, identifying himself as the owner of 21140 Stateline Road, told the Greendale Board of Public Works on Feb. 11 that county health-department soil sampling had determined the property was unsuitable for a septic system and asked to be released so an outside utility could serve the single home.
"My name is Tom Hammerstrom. I'm the owner of 21140 Stateline Road. I purchased the property and I'm looking to build a condominium for my home," Hammerstrom said, explaining that the health department "has deemed with the soil sampling that I cannot have septic." He said BURC would accept him as a customer if the city released the parcel from its service territory.
Committee member Anthony moved to allow BURC to serve the Hammerstrom property and limit that permission to that single parcel; the motion passed on a voice vote. Staff said they would provide BURC a release letter and follow up with the owner once paperwork is complete.
The board emphasized the release applies only to Hammerstrom's address. "It's just one house. One and one only," a board member said during discussion. Officials said no additional properties on the parcel would be released as part of this action.
Next steps: staff will prepare the written release for BURC and notify Hammerstrom when the documents are ready.
