Council reviews department reports and readies budget for public hearing

During its June 9 meeting the West Frankfort City Council heard routine monthly reports from municipal departments and received an update on the city budget timeline.

A codes staff member reported May activity including new code cases, building permits and contractor registrations, and work at the lake to inspect and exercise a valve. The police department reported 739 calls for service in May, including 21 traffic accidents (eight with injuries), 77 adult arrests, one juvenile arrest and 184 traffic stops; the transcript lists fines and fees collected but number formatting in the record is unclear. Street, water and sewer departments each presented monthly activity: the street crew completed oil‑and‑chip work and continued pothole repairs and sidewalk work; the water department reported repairs, meter maintenance, three boil orders and water consumption figures; the sewer department reported JULIE locate responses, sample testing and successful UV disinfection operation for the season.

The mayor said the appropriation and budget figures are compiled and will be posted before a budget hearing to be held shortly before the next council meeting, after which adoption is expected. The council thanked staff for departmental work and noted continued progress on lake and infrastructure projects.
