Port and city detail Camino Royale bridge realignment and expansion to separate commercial and passenger traffic

Patricia Mancha, representing the Port of Eagle Pass, presented a two-part project to realign and expand Camino Royale (Bridge 2) to improve traffic flow and border-crossing experience. "These projects jointly will...expand our current Camino Royale Bridge from six lanes to 12 lanes," Mancha said, describing separation for commercial, vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
Port and city staff said the realignment work on the port side includes adding commercial inspection booths and a separate exit booth to streamline commercial inspection and departure; those inspection booths will be operated and staffed by federal authorities (CBP). City engineers said the infrastructure phase—roadway, drainage and port access—would be city-managed, while CBP has committed to providing personnel for additional federal inspection booths.
Staff said environmental assessments are part of the project pipeline and that the design team and consultants are checking environmental requirements. They emphasized that the near-term infrastructure work would not disturb major public amenities (multipurpose fields) but noted that later phases could encroach on park property and would require additional study and public engagement.
Next steps: ongoing environmental studies, continued coordination with CBP on inspection-booth staffing and phased engineering work; staff said they will keep the public informed as designs and timelines solidify.
