Rye Beach Committee discusses website updates, water testing, lobster-trap guidance and summer speakers

The Rye Beach Committee discussed administrative and outreach items at its June 1 meeting, including website updates, water-testing information, lobster-trap guidance, and a slate of summer guest speakers.
Co-Chair Chuck Latvis said he will follow up with NH Surfrider to obtain water-testing results or links to post on the Beach Committee’s page and asked members to propose ideas for updating member lists and alternate information. The committee agreed members should review the website and bring suggestions.
On lobster traps, Selectwoman Barton reported she spoke with Selectman Tuttle, who said lobstermen conduct an annual beaches cleanup to pick up traps. Tuttle said whole traps that are in good condition should not be touched because they are private property and should have a tag with a phone number; broken traps that are no longer usable may be removed. The Committee discussed organizing a volunteer group to dig out traps that are no longer viable.
The Committee confirmed several guest appearances: Head Lifeguard Rebecca O’Brien will meet with the committee in July to discuss lifeguards and ocean rescue; Building Inspector Amber Harrison will attend the August meeting to discuss the Parsons Creek Advisory Committee; and Animal Control Officer Kacie Solari has been invited to speak about dog ordinances and enforcement on the beach.
Members also divided responsibility for distributing fourth-grade beach posters to local schools.
The committee recorded these outreach and operational items for follow-up ahead of the summer season.
