The rezoning was presented after Senior Planner Mr. Riggsby reported that the Planning Commission had approved a development plan for Chantelli Golf subject to the rezoning. Council Lady Brader moved to approve the ordinance on second reading; Council Lady Watley seconded the motion. The council approved the measure by voice vote.
Why it matters: the rezoning clears a regulatory step for the Chantelli Golf project to proceed in a form the Planning Commission has already recommended. Mr. Riggsby said the commission’s approval of the development plan is “subject to that rezoning,” tying the two steps together.
Other council action at the meeting included approval of minutes from the May 27 meeting, acceptance of a hazard mitigation plan (see separate article), and authorization for the mayor to sign paperwork related to an outer-loop appropriation from the state (a paperwork authorization that does not itself appropriate funds).
The Council chair said the council will continue to review land-use regulations as the Unified Development Code update proceeds, and the UDC team presented a proposed 12-month pause on several categories of development while new standards are drafted. That pause remains at first reading and will return for further consideration.
The ordinance passed by voice vote; the record in the transcript shows no roll-call tally, and the minutes indicate the motion carried with "all in favor." The council had two members absent for the meeting.
