District construction staff updated the board on four capital projects, focusing on the new middle school and the Technical/Support Center (TSC) and early-childhood renovations.
For the new middle school, staff said most first-floor slabs have been poured, structural steel and second-floor concrete work are underway, and the only outstanding slab is the auditorium, which was being used for site access. The project remains on an aggressive 18-month schedule and staff estimated completion around November; weather has caused some site delays but the contractor has addressed erosion and site cleanliness issues.
On the TSC and the planned early-childhood facility, staff described a two-phase bidding approach: an early interior-demolition package (to remove finishes and any suspected asbestos) followed by renovation bids. The board authorized administration to award the interior-demo package so work required to meet aggressive timelines can start during summer months.
Staff also walked the board through site work details — bus access grading, Houston Road improvements, detention ponds and a septic system for a site with no public sewer — and showed renderings and a short progress video. The presenter said the TSC will be designed to support relocation of programs from York One Academy and that the early-childhood renovation will share design keys to create a campus feel.
The demo package approval was taken as a motion and carried by voice vote; specifics of bid awards will be administered by district operations as authorized.
