Superintendent outlines summer projects, state grant award and Lawrence building committee schedule

Superintendent Dr. Dur told the committee Wednesday that a series of capital projects and learning programs are set for the summer and that state budget action is likely to bring $50,000 to help complete a playground.
Capital and safety projects: The superintendent listed multiple summer projects: playground installations at Ticket and Mullen Hall, an outdoor learning center, interconnecting classroom door locks for safety, new cameras and flooring/painting projects in several buildings. District project staff were named as overseeing work and the administration said contractors are scheduled to begin this summer.
Summer learning and course previews: Extended School Year (ESY) and summer learning will be hosted at the high school; Jackie Meyer will coordinate ESY. The high school will offer AP Chemistry and AP Biology preview sessions to better prepare students for the courses in the fall, and entering eighth graders can earn one elective credit for participating in certain summer programs.
State budget and grants: The superintendent reported that the state Senate approved a fair-share provision that includes a $50,000 allocation intended for the Ticket playground; district leaders expect the governor’s signature and said that allocation should remove the need for an emergency CPC request. The budget also includes supplemental funding for circuit breaker and an increased Green Schoolworks fund, which may allow the district to apply for more grants next year.
Lawrence School Building Committee: Trustees were told the first organizational meeting for the Lawrence School Building Committee (a required step in MSBA processes) will be held next week in this room, with committee members appointed to represent the district on the project.
What’s next: The administration will share engineer reports and follow-up information about insurance and cost-sharing once final reviews are complete; trustees asked for continued updates as summer projects proceed.
