A Mercer revitalization project representative told the Linton City Council the effort has surpassed its initial fundraising goal and is preparing to pursue larger grants that will require formal partnership documentation.
"We have met our goal number one of raising over $100,000. We are now pretty close to $115,000," the presenter said, describing momentum since March when about $50,000 had been raised. The speaker credited recent council decisions and community fundraising events — including a pickleball tournament and concessions — for the increase.
The presenter asked the council to approve a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to define partnering roles, including clarity about whether a park board or advisory board controls related facilities and decisions. The MOU, the presenter said, would strengthen applications for competitive grants such as OKRA, DNR, Ready grants and possibly USDA programs; several of those grants require matching funds.
Council members and staff discussed matching requirements. The presenter said a Green County Foundation grant already submitted did not require matching funds, but that other larger grants likely will, and some of the recently raised funds may be reserved for match purposes.
The presenter also said the city’s comprehensive plan will be updated to reflect the recent pool closure and other changes; staff expect to bring proposed updates to the July meeting for council consideration.
