Braidwood City Council unanimously approves appointments, zoning items, road funding and equipment purchases

The Braidwood City Council on Tuesday approved a slate of routine but substantive measures, including two appointments to the Special Events Commission, multiple zoning variances and funding for roadwork and equipment.
Mayor Lions nominated Regina Crump and Annie Wick to the city’s Special Events Commission; both appointments were moved, seconded and approved unanimously. The council also approved an ordinance granting a variance for two signs and the final subdivision plan for property at 515 West Cole City Road, and an ordinance allowing a 6-foot front-yard fence at 435 Enterprise Drive. City staff said the fence request had been recommended by the zoning commission and that a forthcoming development agreement will specify landscaping and construction standards.
The council approved the MFT 2027 allocation as presented and noted the city received five bids to resurface five street sections this year. The engineer read the MFT amount in the meeting record (transcribed in the minutes); council members voted to accept the allocation and proceed with contracts.
City attorney Brian described the council’s approval to advertise the sale of 585 West Main as a first step: the city obtained title through a court abandonment and a judicial deed, and the ordinance authorizes advertising the property for bids so the structure can be demolished and the lot cleaned or redeveloped. "This is not to sell the property, just authorizing us to advertise it for bids," Brian said.
The council approved payment of bills and payroll as presented. The finance report highlighted an Illinois EPA loan payment of $320,985.50 as the largest single line item in the accounts payable listing; the meeting record listed multiple vendor charges for supplies, construction, chemicals and engineering services.
Council members also approved an ordinance to competitively bid and purchase two 2026 GMC Sierra 2500 HD plow trucks; the motion carried unanimously. The meeting record included a transcribed purchase figure that was unclear in audio; the council approved the purchase authorization and the procurement will proceed according to city purchasing procedures.
All recorded motions in this meeting were approved by majority roll-call votes; where tallies were read they were unanimous. The council set the next regular meeting for Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 7 p.m.
