Sussex County reports bond sale, ARPA project updates and repair work; engineering study to reconsider speed limits

Director Space reported a bond sale completed the morning of June 10 and said preliminary information indicated the 2026 winning rate was about 2.68; the director cautioned the board with "don't quote me on that" and said a full report will be provided at a subsequent meeting. He also said ARPA-funded projects remain on schedule to be completed by September, identifying the remaining work as two pole-barn facilities for health and the sheriff's office and a Lafayette fueling center.
The Division of Public Works described the first round of roadside buffer and intersection mowing and inventoryed equipment used for the county's roadside maintenance. The division reported active repaving under a 25-route resurfacing program, currently working on County Route 517 from the Warren County line to U.S. Route 2011 in Andover Borough and planning work on County Route 517 north to the junction with County Route 616 near Pope John High School in Sparta Township; repaving of County Route 616 is expected to be the final project and work is projected to continue through July.
The Division of Engineering has begun collecting data on County Route 519 (West Avenue in Newton) and County Route 517 (Main Street in Ogdensburg) to evaluate posted speed limits and determine whether modifications are warranted. The division will solicit input from the affected municipalities as part of the engineering study and anticipates developing an updated speed-limit ordinance for commissioner authorization later this year.
The board also approved multiple routine resolutions, contract change orders and motions to pay bills on the June 10 bills lists A and B during the meeting's consent and financial sections.
