O'Fallon plans Parks & Recreation Month in July with free pop-ups, 'Messy Mania' and partnerships

Kristen presented a plan for July Parks & Recreation Month on June 9, framing events under the national theme "The Power of Parks and Recreation." The calendar includes free pop-up "get out and play" events, a senior ice-cream social, "Renard on the Road" family fitness classes at James Park pavilion, splash-pad socials and a new family event called "Messy Mania" at Sports Park featuring science, bubbles and art. Kristen said the O'Fallon Fire Protection District will help rinse participants when activities end.
Staff highlighted a park passport program (distributed at large events and available at various recreation facilities) to encourage residents to visit multiple parks and track participation. Kristen said the department will receive a proclamation at the June 25 city council meeting and asked board members to help promote events and volunteer where possible.
The presenter said most activities are free, with some events like the carnivals and certain concerts retaining ticketed or paid components. Staff noted collaboration with communications and Recreation staff to coordinate schedules and promote the events on social media and through RecTrak registration.
