The board also took the first reading of the June 2026 Harrison County chemical annex plan. Staff referenced a recent transportation accident on a county rail spur in the western part of the county and said first responders ensured no immediate threat to public safety. Staff described the annex as designed to coordinate jurisdictions and agencies during chemical incidents and said state agencies were actively investigating the rail incident. The board instructed staff to obtain the accident report and to request railroad inspection procedures and other technical information to inform a planned LEPC (Local Emergency Planning Committee) case study later in the year.
Supervisors voted to authorize the board president to execute grant documents when prepared and approved the grant submittals by voice vote during the meeting. The board noted that final contract details and matching requirements will be determined before any hiring or equipment purchase occurs.
