Escondido trustees set Aug. 3 reopening for renovated main library; ribbon cutting Aug. 1

The Escondido Library Board of Trustees was told the library renovation is nearly complete and approved a reopening timeline that includes a public ribbon cutting and tours on Aug. 1 and a public reopening of the main library on Monday, Aug. 3.
Robert Rhodess, presenting the City update, said final work on furniture and second‑floor lighting is underway and estimated the project would be finished "within about two weeks." He told the board the temporary mall branch will close on Saturday, June 27, and staff will operate limited services from the Pioneer Room during July to accept returns and fulfill holds.
"We will be completing everything within about two weeks," Rhodess said, and announced the public ribbon cutting and tours on Aug. 1, with the main building opening on Aug. 3.
Trustees asked how patrons should return materials during the move. Staff said exterior drop boxes at the mall will be checked during the transition but ultimately removed; maintenance staff will be responsible for removing the bins and library staff will encourage patrons to return items at the Pioneer Room while the move is underway.
The board also received notice of an upcoming public meeting on a proposed Rings Foundation project at Kit Carson Park, scheduled for Saturday the 13th from 9:00–10:30 a.m. in the council chamber. Rhodess invited members of the public to attend the presentation and visit information stations staffed by city and foundation representatives.
In closing, library leaders said they expect more visitors and circulation after the move back to the larger downtown facility, and encouraged trustees to share reopening details with their networks once the city releases the full schedule and visitor information.
