Barrett Economic Development Corporation announces $10,000 grants, cleanup days and music festival

Matt Long, representing the Barrett Economic Development Corporation, presented three local economic initiatives during the June 3 Barrett Township meeting: a commercial property improvement grant program, a community cleanup program and a two-day outdoor music festival.
"Our mission is to strengthen and support the Barrett community by enhancing the local economy and the opportunities available to all Barrett residents," Long said, describing the first initiative as grants of up to $10,000 for exterior improvements such as signage, paint, landscaping and windows. Long emphasized the awards are grants, not loans.
Long said the organization is also funding two curbside junk-removal days with the township handling pickup and the organization covering costs up to $20,000. The community cleanup program has a July date (already fully booked) and a second fall date will be announced.
Lastly, Long outlined 'Five Villages Live,' a two-day outdoor music festival scheduled for July 25–26 at the park, supported by the Pettis Family Music Foundation and featuring regional and national artists; Barrett residents will receive half-price tickets. Long said proceeds, if any, will be donated to local organizations including the volunteer fire department and the local Rotary Club.
