The Washington City Council unanimously adopted the fiscal year 2026–27 budget on June 10, approving a total appropriation of $136,614,925.
City Manager Jeremy Red reviewed the budget process, noting department heads and staff worked through priorities and capital projects in meetings and that the tentative budget and public hearing were available for public review in recent weeks. Red said the adopted total is about $2.5 million less than last year’s budget and praised staff efforts to identify efficiencies that preserve service levels. “We find ways to do things with less, but yet we achieve the high water marks that other cities do by spending more,” he said.
By statute the city must adopt a budget before the end of June; the council completed the roll‑call vote after the public hearing and discussion. The measure passed 5–0. Staff said adopted capital projects and enterprise fund work will proceed and that department heads will report back on project timelines and expenditures.
