Walkway SID moves ahead with NJDEP living shoreline application, declines Urban Canopy grant bid

At its May 12 meeting the Walkway Special Improvement District reviewed two NJDEP Climate Change grant opportunities and directed staff to proceed with an application for the Living Shoreline program.
Tetra Tech is preparing an NJDEP Living Shoreline application the board expects to receive by June. The board also evaluated the Urban Canopy program, which closes in August, and reviewed two proposals for technical and engineering assistance: a proposal from Richard Loeffler for approximately $73,000 and a proposal from Neglia Engineering for approximately $30,000. After discussion, the board decided not to pursue the Urban Canopy grant.
Greg Franz said the borough may have about $40,000 remaining from a prior NJDEP grant that could be applied to tree plantings along the Walkway; he will determine whether those funds are still available.
No formal vote on the Urban Canopy decision is recorded in the minutes; the record states the board decided not to pursue that particular grant.
