At the June 11 meeting Sumiko Amaya Maya, who identified herself as a custodian at Sunburst Elementary, told the governing board she had applied for a night‑custodian job, was told in interviews that "the position is yours," and then was later told the district lacked budget to hire her. "He called me Monday and he say congratulation again the job is yours... and Wednesday in the afternoon 3:00 he called me and say I'm sorry we cannot get you because we don't have budget for get you," Amaya Maya said.
She said she had submitted a request to retract a separate resignation and that HR advised her she could stay, but the situation remained unsettled. President Clayton asked Mr. Morris or another staff member to follow up with her after the meeting.
What the board did: the public commenter—alled attention to an apparent hiring and HR-communication breakdown; district staff were asked to follow up with the employee to resolve the matter. No formal action was recorded in open session beyond the request for follow-up.
