Shelburne Selectboard approves utility budgets; water, wastewater and stormwater rates set

The Shelburne Selectboard unanimously approved the fiscal year 2026–27 budgets for the town’s Water, Wastewater and Stormwater funds on June 9 and set new rates for each utility.
The board approved a water rate of $9.73 per 1,000 gallons, a wastewater rate of $20.03 per 1,000 gallons and a stormwater fee of $6.57 per equivalent residential unit per month. The board opened a public hearing on the utility funds, heard staff explain budget changes and grant uncertainty, and closed the hearing before taking votes.
Finance Director Patty Carpenter described changes to the water budget and said the new billing software will allow greater collection efficiency. Town Manager Matt Lawless noted uncertainty about state grants and said, if grant funding is not obtained, a smaller wastewater project could be designed; he also suggested the present market is favorable for soliciting contractor bids.
Motions to approve the Water, Wastewater and Stormwater budgets and associated rates passed 4-0. The approved rates and budgets take effect for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2026, and will be reflected in upcoming utility billing cycles.
