Engineers report apron, pavement and water-well work at Ennis Big Sky and Ruby Valley Field

At the Jan. 12 meeting, Lance Bowser of Robert Peccia & Associates briefed the Madison County Airport Board on capital-project progress at Ennis Big Sky and Ruby Valley Field airports.
Bowser said preliminary engineering and 25% design work for the Ennis Big Sky north apron expansion is complete and topographic surveying has been finished; the team will schedule further meetings after the 2025 design push. He reported AIP-029-2025 pavement maintenance is complete and the grant is closed. For AIP-027-2023, the Ennis snowplow is complete apart from minor items such as decals and radio installation; a confirmed delivery date is expected before the next board meeting.
Troy Hunter gave an operations update for Ennis Big Sky Airport, reporting that a transformer was replaced to prevent the AWOS from tripping circuit breakers and that a runway-light board had been bypassed while a replacement board was ordered. He noted limited snow removal this winter (about six days) and that staff were working on marketing, updating hangar-owner contact information and securing a company-wide rental-car contract.
For Ruby Valley Field, Bowser said the as-built survey of the airport GIS instrument approach was finalized in December and submitted to the Federal Aviation Administration for chart corrections; additional data collection in leaf-on conditions is planned next spring to support instrument-approach amendments. The board also heard that QA/QC procedures for public water supply wells at both airports are complete and documentation was submitted to the Department of Environmental Quality for review; approval was anticipated the following week.
