Delray Beach to reopen historic golf course after renovation, parks director says

Sam Metta, director of Parks and Recreation, said the city plans to reopen the Delray Beach Golf Course after a renovation intended to restore playability while preserving the course’s historic design. "The main goal of the project is to reopen as a first-rate golf course, brand new, but still paying respect to the history and special unique design of our golf course," Metta said.

Metta told attendees the renovated course will offer more than golf: residents will regain access to a top-quality course, and the city expects increased visitor play that will generate revenue. "Benefits to the residents are not only the ability to play at a first-rate golf course again, but all of the visitors that are going to come in and play," Metta said.

City plans also include on-site food and event services, Metta said, describing a restaurant and catering operation that would host weddings, dinner parties and other events to broaden community use. "It's not just for the golfers. We have a restaurant and a catering, so we do a number of weddings, dinner parties, different events," he said.

Metta framed the renovation as both an economic and civic asset, saying the work would create a "much more revenue-generating golf course" and "something for the community to be proud of." He closed by inviting residents back to the course once work is finished: "Can't wait to invite you all back out to the Delray Beach Golf Course for some amazing golf."
