Wabash City Schools board approves hires, stipends, transfers, trip and meal-price increases

The Wabash City Schools Board of Education on June 9 approved a bundle of routine personnel, program and operational items, including multiple teacher hires, stipends, transfers, resignations and cost adjustments for school meals.
Personnel approvals included hiring Lin Lindsey Knee as WHS instrumental music teacher at a salary of $47,250; Drew Nolan as a third-grade teacher at $42,300; Ryan Homrich as a WHS mathematics teacher at $59,750 plus a $2,000 hiring stipend for dual-credit qualifications; Caitlyn Winry for PCC and Computing Foundations; and Chelsea Parson as an English and communications teacher at $43,300 (Parson will continue PCAP duties and work under an emergency permit while completing licensure requirements). The board also approved Spencer Brown as OJ Neighbors treasurer and approved the hiring of Jeremy Webb as the food-service delivery truck driver pending background check.
The board approved stipends and extra-duty pay: a set of special-education stipends for the second semester (amounts range from $425 to $1,350 for individual staff members) and athletic supervision stipends for the second semester (Justin Denny $3,000; Amanda Jones $1,500). It also approved a $4,100 stipend to fund development of iOS and macOS apps to track work-based learning hours required for the new Indiana diploma; that payment will come from the PCAP grant rather than the education fund.
Several contract and staffing adjustments passed: adding 10 days to the contracts of Jaclyn Holly and Kristen Petronu for the 26-27 year (raising their contracts to 215 days); transfers of Laurar Rossello to third/fourth-grade DLI and Lily White to WHS fifth grade; and acceptance of resignations from Monica Darte (effective May 29, 2026) and Heather McKe (effective May 30, 2026), among others. The administration noted difficulty filling a second-grade Dual-Language Immersion (DLI) position because the district’s SEVP/visa certification was revoked and recertification efforts have had limited response, which may constrain overseas recruitment.
Operational approvals included an out-of-state overnight trip for the girls cross-country team to Mammoth Cave, Ky., July 31–Aug. 2, 2026, with expenses covered by the team and boosters; and approval of the fall coaches list with a mix of returning and new assistant and volunteer coaches across multiple sports.
The board also approved modest meal-price increases for 26-27 recommended by the state to help offset rising food and transportation costs: breakfast at OJ, LH and WHS $1.25; lunch at OJ and LHC $3.00; and lunch at WHS $3.25. The food-service director will continue working with the state to monitor the food-service budget.
Other hires and approvals included a groundskeeper/mower (up to 20 hours per week) and routine administrative acknowledgements. Most motions passed by voice vote; detailed individual tallies were not recorded in the transcript.
The superintendent reported summer-program enrollment figures for the district’s "Watch Me Grow" program and congratulated the class of 2026 on 107 graduates.
