North Berwick awarded RRFB grant for Route 9 pedestrian crossing near Dunkin' Donuts

The North Berwick Select Board learned April 7 that the town received a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) grant to install a solar-powered flashing pedestrian beacon at the Route 9 crossing near the Dunkin' Donuts.
Dwayne Morin said he sought the grant after residents expressed safety concerns about crossing Route 9 and that the system's pads, poles and beacons—run by solar power—will be installed after training slated for late April. He described the poles as communicating by Bluetooth. "It will increase safety of pedestrians in our Town, including Pratt and Whitney walkers and anyone walking to the post office," Morin said.
Morin noted this is the second RRFB grant the town has received. No formal action or vote on the grant was recorded at the meeting; the board received the update and will oversee installation logistics and training.
