The Montrose City Planning Commission on March 11 continued (tabled) a sketch-plan item for the East Star Lot after the applicant failed to attend the meeting.
Staff told the commission the packet materials were available for commissioners to review and offered two options: continue with the sketch-plan feedback without the applicant present and send the meeting recording to the applicant, or postpone the sketch plan so the applicant can attend and receive live commentary. Commissioners cautioned that allowing applicants to skip appearance could set a precedent; one commissioner said the sketch plan’s purpose is ‘‘for us to provide some feedback’’ and favored tabling the item to avoid establishing inconsistent practice.
During an ensuing public-comment period, Aaron Ranstrom of Waterfall Canyon asked how many times an applicant may be tabled for failing to appear. Staff responded that there is no fixed numeric limit, noting property owners retain rights under the application process and that applications can expire and require reapplication; staff and commissioners also said occasional no-shows have been rare in their experience. The commission confirmed the item can be rescheduled for the next meeting (March 25) pending applicant availability.
The commission did not take substantive action on the East Star Lot sketch plan at the March 11 meeting; the item will be returned to the agenda once the applicant coordinates with staff.
