Board approves vacancy resolution, secretary appointment and a mill‑levy election participation resolution

At its July 16 meeting the Montezuma‑Cortez School District Re‑1 Board of Education approved a series of administrative actions: it accepted a board member resignation, declared a vacancy and established an application process and timeline; it appointed Mike Lynch as board secretary; and it adopted a resolution to participate in the Montezuma County coordinated election on Nov. 5, 2024 to place a mill‑levy override for teacher and paraprofessional salary increases.
Ronda read the resolution declaring the vacancy in District A following the June 22, 2024 resignation of Rafe M. O’Brien and outlined the application procedure. The resolution sets an application deadline of Aug. 5, 2024, requires letters of support (minimum two, maximum five, including one from a business leader and one from a civic leader), and schedules interviews by invitation at a board work session on Aug. 6 at 6 p.m. The appointee will serve until the next regular school board election in November 2025.
Board members nominated and appointed Mike Lynch as board secretary by online/voice vote; the meeting record shows the motion passed unanimously. The board also adopted a resolution of intent to participate in the coordinated election to submit a mill‑levy override for teacher and paraprofessional salary increases and named Deborah Ramsey as the district’s designated election official (DEO) to coordinate election actions with Montezuma County.
The ESA General Assurances form — pulled from the consent calendar for clarification — was also discussed and approved after administration confirmed the district’s compliance with the assurances that constitute conditions of continued federal financial assistance. The Finance director noted the figures are preliminary pending the audit; the board approved the assurances with administration’s assurance that the district is "in compliance." Mr. Rice later confirmed a yes vote on the record.
All of these motions passed by voice/online vote at the meeting and were recorded in the public minutes; the board concluded the meeting at 7:15 p.m.
