Mayor Dana Cranker to resign effective April 14; board to address replacement options

Mayor Dana Cranker read a resignation letter at the March 9 meeting announcing her intention to resign effective April 14, 2026. In the letter she said her family is relocating this summer and that stepping away during the transition period is best for the community. Cranker recounted accomplishments during her tenure, including a community-led master plan, a town-built park and the formation of the Silverton Housing Authority and the Anvil Town Homes project.
Town attorney staff told the board no immediate action was required the night the letter was read; staff will prepare a memorializing resolution for the April 13 meeting. That resolution will start the 60-day window in which the board may appoint an interim mayor or set a special election; trustees may appoint a mayor from among existing trustees or from the public if they choose.
Cranker said she will remain in town for several months and offered to help with the transition. Trustees thanked Cranker for her service.
