Capitola City Council adopted a resolution on June 11 calling for the November 2026 municipal election and asking the county to run and consolidate the election. The resolution passed unanimously.
Staff noted there are three council seats on the ballot this year; these elections remain at-large and will not be governed by the districting decision adopted earlier in the meeting. Candidate nomination packets and resources will be available beginning in July; staff held a candidate outreach session at City Hall that drew about 20 attendees and included county election officials.
Council and staff said the county will administer the election under consolidation and the city will reimburse the county for election costs. Staff reminded prospective candidates that county resources and the city's website include candidate handbooks and filing requirements.
Next steps: Nomination period opens in July; staff will post candidate information and continuing guidance on the city website and coordinate election logistics with the county.
