Resident urges quieter fireworks for Homerfest; mayor says contract prevents change

During public comment at the Homer Glen Village Board meeting, Christy Nasser, who identified herself as a resident of Crystal Farm, urged the village to adopt quieter fireworks or alternative visual displays such as drones or lasers to reduce noise and animal distress.
Nasser told the board she has livestock and recounted incidents of animals becoming agitated during loud fireworks, saying residents and veterans she has spoken with no longer attend the traditional loud displays. “I really think that Homer Glenn should start thinking about doing the so-called choir fireworks,” she said, describing quieter displays that retain the visual effect without large explosive salutes.
Mayor Nitsky Trokkey acknowledged the concern but noted the village has a standing contract with the fireworks provider and told the audience the display cannot be changed this year. The mayor asked residents with sensitivities to note the limitation of changing the planned fireworks for this season.
Trustees and staff later noted the village will continue to consider environmental and public-safety measures for future events and the Environmental Committee highlighted conservation efforts and refillable water stations planned for Homerfest.
