Homer Glen approves $2.59 million sewer contract; greenlights easement payment and intersection work

The Homer Glen Village Board on Monday approved construction of a sanitary sewer extension and cleared several related infrastructure payments.
The board voted to award the Cedar Road/Flint Creek sanitary sewer extension to Austin Tyler Construction for a low bid reported at about $2.59 million. Trustee Tristan Sheller said she found one bid notably higher than projections, calling it “double of what our projected winner bid would be,” a concern echoed by other trustees. Engineer Brett Wescott responded that higher bids sometimes reflect contractor workloads, saying, “sometimes you get high bids on projects like this. Contractors are very busy and they say, ‘If you're willing to pay me this, then I'll do it.’”
The board also approved acceptance of sanitary sewer and temporary construction easements from Lockport Township High School District 205 and agreed to pay the district $10,431; trustees amended the easement action to require that the payment and easement be memorialized in a written agreement subject to the village attorney’s approval.
Separately, the board approved a $55,746.18 payment to Will County for improvements at the Bell Road and Martingale Lane intersection. Trustees described the intersection work as addressing a long-standing flooding problem in that area and expressed support for completing the improvement.
Other related actions taken at the meeting included approval of a $7,500 reimbursement under the commercial building improvement grant program to Rory’s Golf and Gaming LLC for eligible improvements at 12145 West 159th Street.
The board voted by roll call on each item; motions carried on the recorded voice votes. Staff said inspection, permitting and final contract documents will follow standard procurement and engineering review before construction mobilization begins. The village engineer said testing and coordination with contractors will continue as part of project implementation.
