Strongsville board accepts Megan Hefner’s immediate resignation; outlines appointment timeline

The Strongsville City Board of Education on May 14 accepted the immediate resignation of board member Megan Hefner and said it will follow Ohio law and board policy in filling the vacancy.

Board members heard a letter the resigning member submitted and voted to accept it. The letter, signed “Megan Hefner,” said she intended the resignation to be effective immediately and described her service as “a meaningful opportunity to support our students, staff, and community.” The board moved and the motion carried unanimously.

Treasurer George Anagnostto told the board the timing spelled out in Ohio law: the board may not appoint a replacement within 10 days of the resignation (the 10‑day window runs through May 24), and if the board does not appoint a person within that window it must appoint someone at the next regular or special board meeting but no later than 30 days after the resignation (June 13). The administration said it will post the vacancy application timeline and next steps for the community.

Board members thanked Hefner for her service. Mrs. Ham (speaking for the board) said the district will “follow all applicable policies, procedures, and legal requirements regarding the vacancy process” and that the board would keep the community informed. The board also confirmed the appointee will serve until the first day of January following the next regular board election more than 90 days after appointment; the remaining two years of the term will be on a 2027 ballot, administrators said.

The board did not announce a timeline for candidate interviews at the meeting but said an application notice would be posted the next day and that the appointment would be made in public session once the statutory window closes.
