43 Metuchen students receive New Jersey State Seal of Biliteracy

Metuchen High School honored 43 students on June 9 who earned the New Jersey State Seal of Biliteracy for proficiency in English and one or more world languages.
"Matuchan High School is proud to announce the following 43 students who received the New Jersey State seal of biliteracy," the presenter said, and called students forward to receive certificates in languages that included Chinese, French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Latvian, Polish, Russian, Spanish, Tamil and Ukrainian. The district explained that to earn the seal students must meet graduation requirements for English language arts and achieve proficiency on state‑approved world‑language assessments.
Principal and staff thanked students and explained logistics for distribution of certificates: recipients not present would get their certificates from the organizer after the ceremony. Board members and administrators congratulated the students for the academic achievement.
The list of named students was read aloud during the ceremony; district staff asked awardees to collect certificates after their names were called. This recognition will appear on students' transcripts per state guidance.
