The Arrowhead UHS School Board decided to pursue a targeted, pre‑referendum survey as the next step in facilities planning after a May 19 workshop.
Member Miller reported that the majority of the board supported using a simpler, more focused survey rather than a long, exploratory instrument used previously. The rationale: a shorter survey can deliver a clearer yes/no sense of community support before the district commits time and expense to a referendum campaign. "Essentially the next steps are going to be next week at our meeting on Wednesday during building and grounds and finance. Bill Foster will be there again to hopefully review some potential survey questions," Member Miller said.
Consultant Bill Foster (School Perceptions) attended the workshop and offered guidance on survey design. Board members plan to revisit the draft questions in committee with the aim of approving a final survey at a subsequent board meeting.
The workshop also covered what to measure and how to present options to the public; members emphasized the goal of reducing ambiguity that hampered earlier, longer surveys. No formal referendum question or timeline was approved at the meeting; the survey is intended to inform whether and how the district would proceed to a ballot measure.
Next steps: Bill Foster will present potential survey questions at the upcoming Building & Grounds and Finance joint meeting; the board aims to move a survey through committee and potentially adopt language at the next regular board meeting.
