Hardin County appoints Michael Steck as road supervisor; colleagues praise retiring Dwight Morgan

Squire EG Thompson moved approval of the resolution and Squire Aaron Pennington seconded; a roll-call vote recorded all members present voting yes. The appointment follows the planned retirement of long-serving Road Supervisor Dwight Morgan.
Several members praised Morgan’s decades of service. Squire Fred Clem, Jr. recalled Morgan’s attention to detail and late-night consultations and offered a personal send-off: "Well done, my friend," Clem said. Squire EG Thompson said he was pleased to have served alongside Morgan and expressed confidence that Michael Steck would "continue operations at a high level." Squire Patsy Whitehead and others highlighted Morgan’s responsiveness and mentorship.
County Judge/Executive Keith Taul commended Morgan’s preparedness during emergencies such as ice and snow events and noted plans to hold a retirement celebration for Morgan before the next fiscal court meeting, pending scheduling. Taul acknowledged Steck’s learning curve but expressed confidence in his ability to lead the road department and appreciated Steck’s willingness to serve.
The court provided no additional contingency actions tied to the appointment; Steck’s duties will proceed under the existing road department structure.
