Keller ISD renews District of Innovation plan and calls special election to fill Board Place 6

At the June 24 meeting Keller ISD trustees approved a renewal of the district’s District of Innovation (DOI) plan and voted to call a special election for Board Place 6.
Bryce, staff lead for the DOI committee, told trustees the committee met three times this spring, posted the draft for the required 30-day comment period and recommended renewal with no new exemptions and several removals required by recent state changes. Trustees discussed language that governs teacher planning time and asked about campus-level implementation and oversight; staff said existing district policies and master-schedule reviews would continue to ensure planning-time requirements are met.
Separately, the board approved calling a special election for November 2026 to fill Place 6 for the remainder of the term after staff explained the timeline: the seat was vacated on Dec. 20, 2025, and the board’s prior application/interview process did not produce an appointment by the statutory deadline. The board’s motion to call the special election passed 6–0.
What happens next: The DOI renewal will be implemented and staff will continue monitoring planning-time implementation; filings for the special election will open per the calendar the district announced.
